Few things start a holiday worse than luggage that will not fit. It is one of the most common questions we are asked, and the honest answer is: it depends on the vehicle and what you tell us when you book. Here is a simple guide to how much fits, and how to avoid a boot-loading disaster.
- A standard saloon comfortably takes 2 large cases plus hand luggage for up to 3 passengers.
- An estate or MPV is the right call for 4 passengers with a case each, or bulky items like golf clubs or ski bags.
- Always tell us your passenger and bag count when booking, so we send a vehicle that genuinely fits.
How many suitcases fit in a normal taxi?
A standard executive saloon comfortably holds two large suitcases in the boot plus hand luggage in the cabin, fine for a couple or a small family travelling light. Add a third large case or a fourth passenger and you are better off in a larger vehicle. The key is matching the car to the load.
When do you need an estate or MPV?
Choose a larger vehicle when you have four passengers each with a case, or any bulky item, golf clubs, ski or snowboard bags, a pushchair, or a wheelchair. An estate or MPV gives the boot space so nobody travels with a case on their lap. We will recommend the right size when you book.
What about awkward or oversized items?
Sports kit, instruments, large boxes and mobility equipment are all fine with notice, we just need to know in advance so the right vehicle turns up. The worst outcome is a sports bag that will not fit a saloon at 5am, and that is entirely avoidable with one line on your booking.
How do you make sure it all fits?
Tell us the number of passengers and the number and type of bags when you book. We would rather send a slightly larger car than leave you repacking on the pavement. For families, see our note on travelling with children, who add car seats and pushchairs to the mix.
A quick packing-and-vehicle checklist
Before you book, run a simple mental check: how many people, how many large cases, how many cabin bags, and is anything bulky or unusually shaped? Those four answers tell us exactly which vehicle to send, and turn 'will it fit?' from a 5am gamble into a solved problem.
As a rule of thumb, two adults with a case each are fine in a saloon; four adults with four cases need an estate or MPV; and anything with golf clubs, skis or a pushchair points to the larger vehicle every time.
