Chalfont St Peter to London City Airport, door to terminal
The drive from Chalfont St Peter to London City Airport runs to about 70–95 minutes. It starts on the A413 towards Gerrards Cross, joins the A40 near Denham and crosses London to the A13, which leads to the Docklands terminal.
Because so much of the route is urban, we look at the hour you travel before choosing a corridor. The price does not change with that decision: it is agreed at booking and stays put.
Passengers from the village are often heading for a same-day return, and we collect from offices as readily as from homes. Those making the trip more than once a month tend to prefer an executive car in Chalfont St Peter with space to get through emails on the way.

From the Chilterns to the Royal Docks, where motorways stop helping
London City is the one transfer of the five where the motorway network is barely the story. The A40 does most of the work: we come out of the village on the A413 through Gerrards Cross, pick up the A40 at Denham and head east, and the only real question is where we turn off it. Round the top of London, the A406 North Circular feeds the A1020 and the Royal Docks roads. Through town, the A40 leads to the A13, which is the trunk approach the airport names itself, and from there it is a case of following the signs for London City Airport down to Hartmann Road. Both corridors work, so we choose on the day rather than committing the night before. Two things are fixed either way. The airport sits in Newham, inside the London-wide ULEZ, so the car has to be compliant, and it sits outside the Congestion Charge zone, so a sensibly routed journey never touches it. The forecourt also allows the tightest drop-off window of the five airports we cover, which keeps the handover brisk.
Sixty-five to ninety minutes, and the passenger list matches. London City is a business airport, and the bookings from here are mostly day returns to Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Zurich, Dublin or Edinburgh. The village has the employers to generate that: RWS has its head office at Europa House on Chiltern Park, and the office buildings at Chalfont Park sit just off the A413 towards Gerrards Cross. Plenty of these passengers would normally take a Chiltern train from Gerrards Cross into Marylebone, but the timings do not stretch to a first flight out of the Docks. Most people travelling for work would rather have an executive car with room to work than a standard saloon, and if you give us the flight number when you book the car we track it and re-time the collection ourselves.
Will a Chalfont St Peter taxi to City go through the Congestion Charge zone?
It should not need to. London City Airport sits well east of the central zone, and the Congestion Charge only applies to a car that actually enters it. Transport for London charges £18 a day when paid on the day or in advance, from 7am to 6pm on weekdays and from noon to 6pm at weekends and on bank holidays. Private hire vehicles lost their general exemption in April 2019, so a route through the middle of town in those hours would be charged, which is one more reason we favour corridors that skirt the centre.
At the airport end, timings are short. London City opens check-in two hours before departure, and it says security takes around five minutes on average. That does not replace your airline's own deadline, which is the figure to plan around. If you are unsure how much margin to leave, our guide to leaving times from South Bucks walks through the arithmetic.
For regular fliers, a fixed-price arrangement in Chalfont St Peter works the same way for local trips as it does for this one.
