Which way does a taxi go from Farnham Common to Gatwick?

It depends on the traffic, which is the advantage of starting here. The A355 reaches the M40 at Beaconsfield to the north and the M4 at Slough to the south, and both lead onto the same anticlockwise M25. Either way, allow around 75–90 minutes to the terminal.

You agree the price when you book. It covers the whole run, including the fee Gatwick charges to stop on its drop-off forecourts, and it does not change if we end up taking the southern route instead of the northern one.

We collect from the Broadway and Beaconsfield Road, from Up End and the roads on the edge of Burnham Beeches, and from neighbouring Stoke Poges and Fulmer. Most of these trips are families, so we ask about children's seats and luggage when you book.

Two ways out of Farnham Common on a Gatwick morning

Few villages in our area have a genuine choice at the start of a Gatwick transfer, but Farnham Common does. Heading north, it is about three miles up Beaconsfield Road to Junction 2 of the M40 by Beaconsfield services, then east to Junction 1A and the M25 at Junction 16. Heading south, the A355 runs a similar distance through Slough to Junction 6 of the M4, east to Junction 4b and onto the M25 at Junction 15. Both deliver you to the same anticlockwise carriageway, so at five in the morning we simply take whichever end is moving. After that it is a long steady run past Heathrow and the M3 interchange, leaving at Junction 7 for the M23, with the old A23 Brighton road as the backstop if the M23 closes.

Half-term, ski weeks and school calendars

Gatwick is where many package and charter holidays depart, so bookings from the village follow the school calendar closely: Farnham Common Village Schools, and the Caldicott and Dair House terms. That means golf bags, ski bags, a pushchair and four cases in one vehicle, which is why we ask how many of you there are and what you are carrying before choosing the car. Our half-term travel tips and guide to airport taxis with children cover the practical side, from car seats to snacks.

How early to leave the village

A South Terminal check-in for a 6.45am flight wants you there by about 4.45am. Allowing the full 90 minutes plus a short buffer, the car should leave Up End at around 3.05am, while Beaconsfield Road is still empty. We run the same trip in reverse when you land, tired and out of step with the clock, and the driver will already know whether the flight is early or late.

The forecourt, the shuttle and the charge

At the end of the M23 spur, the first roundabout serves the South Terminal and Airport Way continues to the North Terminal. Whichever you need, Gatwick charges £10 for up to 10 minutes on the drop-off forecourt, a further £1 per minute after that, and asks you to leave within 30 minutes. If you are dropped at the wrong building, the free shuttle between terminals runs round the clock and takes about two minutes. Our fare includes the forecourt charge.

The nearest rail option starts at Slough: the Elizabeth line to Farringdon and a Thameslink train to Gatwick, or GWR west to Reading for the direct Reading to Gatwick service. Both involve a change with luggage. To see how every airport from the village is arranged, or to book longer runs beyond the airports such as a cruise port, the same fixed pricing applies.

FAQ

Farnham Common to Gatwick questions

How long does it take to get from Farnham Common to Gatwick by taxi?

Around 75–90 minutes. We join the M25 either from the M40 at Beaconsfield or from the M4 at Slough, whichever is flowing better, then follow it anticlockwise to the M23.

Why might the driver go through Slough instead of Beaconsfield?

The A355 reaches both motorways in about three miles. If the M40 or the top of the M25 is slow, going south to M4 Junction 6 and joining the M25 at Junction 15 reaches the same anticlockwise carriageway.

Can you fit child seats for a Farnham Common to Gatwick trip?

Yes. Child and booster seats are available on request. Tell us the children's ages when you book so the right seats are fitted before collection.

What time should we leave Farnham Common for a 6.45am flight?

Around 3.05am. That gives up to 90 minutes of driving, a short buffer and arrival about two hours before a short-haul departure.

How much does Gatwick charge to drop off?

£10 for the first 10 minutes, then £1 for each extra minute, with a 30-minute limit. If you travel with us, it is included in the fixed fare.

Is there a train from Farnham Common to Gatwick?

Not from the village. The closest options start at Slough station: the Elizabeth line to Farringdon then Thameslink, or GWR to Reading for the direct service to Gatwick. Each needs a change with your bags.

Do you collect families from Gatwick after a holiday?

Yes. We track the flight home, wait free of charge on international arrivals, meet you in the arrivals hall and drive you back to the door at the price agreed in advance.
