Farnham Common to Heathrow (LHR)

Farnham Common to Heathrow: south to the M4, not north to the M40

Allow around 20–35 minutes from Farnham Common to a Heathrow terminal. The village is about four miles from Junction 6 of the M4, so drivers head south through Farnham Royal and Slough instead of climbing to the M40 at Beaconsfield.

The price is fixed when you book, whatever the A355 is doing on the day. Heathrow's £7 Terminal Drop-off Charge is included, which saves you an online payment that is easy to forget.

We pick up from the Broadway, the roads off Crown Lane and Stewarts Drive, the edge of Burnham Beeches and the Burnham Beeches Hotel. On arrival days the driver follows your flight and meets you in the terminal.

Local Knowledge

How the terminal you fly from changes the drive out of Farnham Common

A Heathrow run from Farnham Common normally starts by dropping south on the A355 through Farnham Royal and into Slough, joining the M4 eastbound at Junction 6. Once on the motorway, the terminal decides the rest.

Terminals 2 and 3

Leave at Junction 4 and follow the airport spur through the tunnel into the central terminal area, where both terminals are signed.

Terminal 5

A different road entirely: leave at Junction 4b for the M25, go south to Junction 14 and take the terminal's own approach off the A3044.

Terminal 4

Also from Junction 14, on the A3113 along the southern side of the airport. Get the choice wrong and there is no quick turn at Heathrow, only a long loop of the perimeter, so we confirm the terminal at booking.

If the M4 is stacking up around Junction 5, the A4 Bath Road through Langley and Colnbrook runs alongside it and brings the car in along the airport's northern edge. And when Slough itself is the problem, the driver can go the other way: north on the A355 to M40 Junction 2 at Beaconsfield, east to the M25 at Junction 16, and down to Junction 15 or 14 for your terminal.

When to book the car

On a run this short, timing matters far more than distance. A car on your drive at half past four still beats the first wave of traffic onto the A355, and gets you to Heathrow at around five, right for a 07:00 or 07:15 flight to Europe. For a long-haul departure at 11:00 on a weekday, collect around 07:00 and accept that the Slough approach will be busy. Our timing guide for South Bucks flyers works through more examples.

At the airport

Each visit to a Heathrow terminal drop-off zone costs £7, with no waiting allowed and an £80 penalty if nobody pays by midnight the next day. Our fare includes it. The alternative is to be dropped for free at the Park & Ride car park for your terminal and take Heathrow's free shuttle bus to the doors; on a tight schedule the forecourt is quicker. On the way home, cars cannot wait at the kerb, so the driver parks nearby and comes into arrivals to meet you.

By train or bus instead

The nearest stations are Burnham and Slough, both on the Elizabeth line, but neither has a direct train to the airport: you change at Hayes & Harlington. Heathrow also lists bus route 704, which runs from Maidenhead through Burnham and Slough to Terminal 5. Both are fine with hand luggage; with a family and cases, the car from your door is the calmer choice.

Who books it

This is the airport the village leans on, and the traffic runs both ways. Some of it is work, people flying out from the offices on the Slough Trading Estate. The rest is family travel: half-term departures, relatives landing late in the evening, and hotel guests leaving the Burnham Beeches Hotel for a flight home. Regular flyers usually put the travel on a Farnham Common business account so nobody handles payment at the kerb, the same drivers cover chauffeur work from the village, and every other airport from SL2 is on the Farnham Common airport transfers page.

Farnham Common to Heathrow Taxi Questions

How long is a taxi from Farnham Common to Heathrow?

Around 20–35 minutes. The usual route is the A355 south through Farnham Royal and Slough to M4 Junction 6, then Junction 4 for Terminals 2 and 3 or Junction 4b and the M25 for Terminals 4 and 5. When Slough is congested, the alternative is north on the A355 to the M40 at Beaconsfield and the M25 from Junction 16.

Is the train from Burnham or Slough a good alternative?

It works with light luggage, but there is no direct service: Elizabeth line trains from Burnham and Slough need a change at Hayes & Harlington for the Heathrow branch. A taxi goes from your door to the terminal in one run.

Is there a bus from near Farnham Common to Heathrow?

Heathrow lists route 704, which runs from Maidenhead via Burnham and Slough to Terminal 5. You would need to get to Burnham or Slough first, as it does not come through the village.

Does the Farnham Common fare include the Heathrow drop-off fee?

Yes, the £7 Terminal Drop-off Charge is included. If you would rather avoid it altogether, we can drop you at your terminal's Park & Ride car park, where drop-off is free and a shuttle bus runs to the doors.

What time should I leave Farnham Common for a 7am flight?

A 04:30 pickup reaches Heathrow at around 05:00, about two hours before a short-haul departure. For long haul, add another hour.

Can you take a family with lots of luggage from Farnham Common?

Yes. Tell us how many passengers and cases, plus any pushchair or child seats, and we send a car that fits them. Our luggage guide shows what fits in each vehicle.

Will the driver wait if my flight back to Farnham Common lands late?

Yes. We track the flight, so the pickup follows the actual landing time, and international arrivals include free waiting time for passport control and bags.
