Chalfont St Giles to Stansted by car: the short answer
It is around 92–107 minutes from Chalfont St Giles to Stansted, the longest of the five airport runs we quote from the village. We leave down the A413 towards Chalfont St Peter, pick up the M25 at Junction 16 or Junction 17, and follow it clockwise across Hertfordshire to the M11.
Because the whole party travels together, a group of four with four suitcases usually finds one car simpler than parking at the airport for a week. We collect from homes around the High Street and the village green, from Chalfont & Latimer station, and from anywhere else in HP8, with the fare fixed at booking.

Chalfont St Giles to Stansted: north on the M25, then the M11
The first few miles run down the Amersham Road to Chalfont St Peter, and it is there that the Stansted route offers a genuine local choice. The standard line carries on to the A40 and the M40 at Denham, then Junction 1A onto the M25 at Junction 16. The alternative cuts east from Chalfont St Peter on Chalfont Road to Maple Cross and joins at Junction 17 instead, missing the section where the motorway threads beneath the five brick arches of the Chalfont Viaduct. Either way the car then runs clockwise past the M1 at 21, the A1(M) at 23 and on to Junction 27, where the M11 heads north.
On the M11 the airport exit for London-side traffic is 8a; Stansted reserves its Junction 8 advice for drivers coming down from Cambridge. Northbound you pass Junction 8 at Birchanger a moment before 8a, and because it also meets the A120 it is the workable way in if the 8a slip road is closed. When the north-eastern quarter of the M25 is shut altogether, the A414 across Hertfordshire through St Albans, Hatfield, Hertford and Harlow brings us onto the M11 at Junction 7 instead.
The passengers tend to come in groups: a stag or hen party leaving from the closes off Bowstridge Lane, families on an early low-cost flight, and people from the offices at Chalfont Grove on Narcot Lane who have found that the flight they need goes from Essex rather than Heathrow. For anyone who would rather do a run of this length in something quieter, a chauffeur-driven car from the village is booked the same way and takes the same road.

Is there a train from Chalfont St Giles to Stansted?
Not directly, but it is closer than people think. Metropolitan line trains from Chalfont & Latimer heading for Aldgate call at Liverpool Street, and from there the Stansted Express leaves every 15 minutes during the day, taking about 48 minutes. The catch is getting to the station with luggage, the long Underground ride and the early hours: a dawn flight needs a train that is not running yet. For a family of four with cases, one car door to door is usually the calmer choice, and our note on sharing airport transfers explains why a full car compares well.

Terminal, drop-off and the time to aim for
Stansted runs from one terminal building, with departure gates in three satellites reached by walkway or the transit train, so there is no terminal to choose. The Express Set Down at the front charges £10 for up to a quarter of an hour and £28 after that (prices from 19 March 2026); the Mid Stay car park offers an hour free and a shuttle bus. Aim to be at security two hours before departure, which is the airport's own advice, and more on a Friday in the school holidays. Details of the airport itself are on our Stansted transfers page, and every airport we serve from the village is listed under Chalfont St Giles airport transfers.
