Gerrards Cross to Stansted Airport: how the transfer works
Gerrards Cross is where we are based, so the car rarely has far to come. From your door it is around 90–105 minutes to Stansted: east along the Oxford Road to the Denham Roundabout, the M40 and the M25 at Junction 16, then clockwise round to the M11.
We collect right across SL9, from Chalfont Heights and Austenwood to the roads around the station and the Common, with the price agreed before the booking is confirmed.

Junction 8a, not 8: the Stansted approach from Gerrards Cross
Stansted is the longest of the five airport runs from SL9 and almost all of it is motorway, so the local part is over quickly. The A40 Oxford Road runs east to the Denham Roundabout, onto the M40 at Junction 1, across Junction 1A and onto the M25 at Junction 16, then clockwise. From there the car works round past the M1 and the A1(M) before dropping onto the M11 north at Junction 27.
Arriving from the London side, the airport junction is 8a; Stansted directs only traffic coming down from Cambridge to Junction 8. Northbound, though, Junction 8 at Birchanger comes first and is joined to the A120, so it is a genuine way in if the 8a slip is closed for works. The larger fallback is the A414, which crosses Hertfordshire through St Albans, Hatfield and Hertford to Harlow and rejoins the M11 at Junction 7. That is the route when the north-eastern M25 is shut rather than slow. Stansted has a single passenger terminal, so there is no terminal to get wrong, only satellite gate buildings to reach once you are inside.
Nobody drives to the far side of the M25 by preference, so this transfer is almost always about the flight rather than the airport. The route you want leaves from Stansted, the departure sits at an hour that makes connections awkward, and there is no direct rail link from Gerrards Cross, which is the whole argument for the car. We collect across the town and the villages around Gerrards Cross, and the longer the run the more it matters that the fare is agreed in advance rather than assembled from a meter somewhere on the M11.

Landing at Stansted late with the M25 still ahead
The return leg is where the planning earns its keep. Land at Stansted late with the whole clockwise M25 still to come, and the gap between a driver already in the terminal and a queue at a rank is a much shorter night. We watch the inbound flight, so a delay moves the collection instead of costing you the car, and the meet-and-greet guide explains exactly where your driver will be standing. If a flight is cancelled outright, our note on delays and cancellations covers what happens to the booking.
Getting from Gerrards Cross to Stansted by rail
It can be done, but not simply. Chiltern Railways runs from Gerrards Cross to Marylebone; from there it is the Underground to Liverpool Street or Tottenham Hale and the Stansted Express, which runs every 15 minutes in the daytime and takes around 48 minutes from Liverpool Street or 37 from Tottenham Hale. Before a 6am departure, those connections are not running early enough to help. If you are coming off a train at home instead, we can meet you through Gerrards Cross station pickups, and the Stansted from Gerrards Cross guide goes into the airport in more detail.
One cost to know about if a friend is dropping you instead: Stansted's Express Set Down charges £10 for up to 15 minutes and £28 for longer stays, the rates since 19 March 2026, while the Mid Stay car park gives an hour of free drop-off with a shuttle bus to the terminal.
