Seer Green to the M11: which way round

Two starts are possible from Seer Green. The usual one takes the short run into Beaconsfield and joins the M40 at Junction 2, heading east to Junction 1A and the M25 at Junction 16. The other cuts across to Chalfont St Giles and follows the A413 south to Denham, reaching the same M25 junction from the other side; it is useful when the M40 is slow between Junctions 2 and 1. From Junction 16 the car goes clockwise past the M1 and the A1(M), leaves the orbital at Junction 27 and heads up the M11.

Stansted asks drivers coming from the London side to use Junction 8a and those from Cambridge to use Junction 8. Northbound, Junction 8 at Birchanger comes first, and it connects to the A120 as well, which is why we can still reach the terminal if the 8a slip is closed. For a closure on the M25 itself between the M1 and M11, the A414 through Hatfield and Hertford is the diversion, joining the M11 at Junction 7.

Can you reach Stansted from Seer Green & Jordans station?

Yes, but not quickly. Chiltern Railways runs from Seer Green & Jordans to Marylebone; you then cross London by Underground to Liverpool Street or Tottenham Hale for the Stansted Express, which Stansted Airport gives as around 48 minutes from Liverpool Street and 37 from Tottenham Hale, with a train every 15 minutes during the day. Leaving Seer Green in the summer rush

In school holidays, give yourself more than the minimum. Stansted's baseline advice is to be at security two hours before departure, and Ryanair's bag drop closes 40 minutes before take-off, rising to 60 minutes from 10 November 2026. Dropping off costs money at the kerb: the Express Set Down has charged £10 for up to 15 minutes and £28 over that since 19 March 2026, while the Mid Stay car park gives free drop-off for an hour and a 24-hour shuttle bus.
