Which station should Farnham Common use, and when is a taxi better?
It depends where in London you are going. For London Paddington or Reading, Burnham station is roughly three and a half miles away and Slough is a similar drive. For Marylebone, Gerrards Cross is about four miles east and Beaconsfield a little over three miles north, both on the Chiltern Main Line. For flights the balance tips towards a car. There is no direct train from any of those stations into Heathrow's terminals, and driving yourself adds costs that are easy to forget. Where can traffic make a Farnham Common meter climb?
Southbound, the A355 through Farnham Royal into Slough is the main variable, and it feeds M4 Junction 6 for Heathrow and the west. Northbound, the A355 heads to Beaconsfield and M40 Junction 2. For trips on through Beaconsfield towards Amersham, the relief road opened in April 2022 lets traffic avoid the London End roundabout, but the motorway junction itself still queues at busy times.
