Iver to Luton (LTN)

Iver and Iver Heath to Luton Airport

Plan for 50–70 minutes. From Iver Heath we take the A412 up to the Denham Roundabout, join the M40, and go clockwise on the M25 to the M1. From Richings Park the M25 is also close. The fare is fixed when you book.

The parish is tucked between the M25, the M40 and the M4, which makes Heathrow very close. Luton is further, but it is where many low-cost European flights go from, and it is the airport SL0 families often choose for short breaks.

We collect from Iver village, Iver Heath around Pinewood Studios, Richings Park by the station, and the hamlets of Love Green and Shreding Green. Short local journeys are covered by our Iver taxis, and film work has its own Pinewood Studios service.

North out of Iver Heath: the roads to Luton

Luton is the Gatwick trip turned inside out, the same motorway taken the other way. From Iver Heath the natural start is the A412 Uxbridge Road, out through the Five Points roundabout where Pinewood Road, Slough Road and Wood Lane all meet just below Pinewood Studios, and north to the Denham roundabout for junction 1 of the M40. One junction along at 1A the M40 hands you to the M25 at junction 16, and from there the numbers climb: junction 17 at Maple Cross, which is the same A412 you left Iver Heath on further along its run, then junction 18 for Amersham and Chorleywood, junction 20 for the A41, and junction 21 where the M1 crosses. Head north on the M1, leave at junction 10, take the spur to 10a, and the A1081 New Airport Way carries you the last couple of miles in. There is a roundabout before the tunnel on the final approach where the signs for the drop-off zone are more use than a sat-nav, and the airport says so itself, so that is what we follow. When the M1 is blocked the A1081 through St Albans and Harpenden is a real way in from the south, and the A414 lets a driver cut across from junction 8.

At around 50 to 70 minutes via the M25 and M1, Luton reads shorter than Gatwick or Stansted from here, but the flights are the awkward part. A great deal of what leaves Luton goes early, which means a collection from Iver in the dark, and that is the single most common booking we take on this route: families in Richings Park heading off at half term, weekenders and students, and the contractors working around Pinewood who fly out at short notice. We keep round-the-clock cover for exactly that reason, so a four in the morning pickup from Love Green or Shreding Green is arranged the same way as a Tuesday afternoon. The drop-off area at Luton is camera-controlled with a time limit on it, so the sensible plan is to pull in, unload and move off rather than sit and wait. Between the airport work we do the everyday local runs around the Ivers, which is how our drivers know how differently Wood Lane and the A412 behave at half six in the morning.

Other Ways There

Can I use the Elizabeth line from Iver to get to Luton Airport?

In part. Iver station, in Richings Park, is on the Elizabeth line, and trains run through central London to Farringdon. There you change to Thameslink heading north to Luton Airport Parkway, then take the Luton DART to the terminal. That is three separate trains, a change in central London, and luggage for the whole journey.

The DART itself runs 24 hours a day and takes a few minutes, but it is at the end of a long trip. For flights at the times Luton is busiest, very early morning and late evening, a car from SL0 is usually the only option that does not mean leaving home far earlier than you need to.

If someone is driving you instead, Luton's terminal Drop Off and Pick Up Zone uses number plate cameras: £9 for up to 12 minutes, £1 a minute after that and a 30-minute maximum, paid online by midnight the next day. With our transfers, that charge is included in the quoted fare. The Iver airport transfers page lists times to every airport we serve.

FAQ

Iver to Luton Taxi Questions

How long is a taxi from Iver to Luton Airport?

Around 50–70 minutes. The longer times are usually because of M25 traffic between junctions 16 and 21, not the local roads.

Is there a train from Iver to Luton Airport?

You can take the Elizabeth line from Iver to Farringdon, Thameslink to Luton Airport Parkway and then the DART to the terminal. It works, but it takes much longer than the car.

Do you collect from Richings Park and Iver Heath?

Yes, from every part of the parish, including Love Green, Shreding Green and the roads around Pinewood Studios.

Can you do a Luton run at short notice for a production?

Where a car and driver are free, yes. Call 01753 858585 and we will tell you straight away whether we can make the time.

How does the drop-off at Luton work?

The driver uses the terminal Drop Off and Pick Up Zone, about five minutes' walk from the doors. The airport charge for it is included in our fixed quote.

Which route do you use if the M1 is closed?

We can come off at junction 8 and use the A414, or approach on the A1081 through St Albans and Harpenden, which reaches New Airport Way from the south.
