Iver to London City (LCY)

How far is London City Airport from Iver?

In time, London City Airport is about 70–95 minutes from Iver by car. The A412 takes you up to the Denham Roundabout for the A40, which runs east into London before the switch to the A13 for the Docks.

That makes Iver one of the closer places we serve for this airport. Every booking has a set fare, flight tracking and a driver who comes inside the terminal for arrivals.

Iver Heath is home to Pinewood Studios, and we collect from studio and business addresses as well as homes. For studio work generally, see our Pinewood Studios taxi page; for regular company travel, Iver corporate accounts keep it on one invoice.

Local Knowledge

The one Iver airport run that is not a motorway job

London City is the only one of the five that no motorway delivers you to, and the journey has a different shape because of it. The A13 through the Royal Docks is the road that actually gets you there, and everything before that is a question of how you reach it. From Iver Heath and the village the A412 runs up to the Denham roundabout for the A40, which is where this trip usually begins. After that there are two honest options and the driver picks on the day: round the north and east of London on the A406 North Circular, which meets the A1020 and drops onto the same local roads as the A13, or stay on the A40 into town and out east on the A13 itself. From the A13 the airport is signposted by name, and the terminal is reached from the west over Connaught Bridge or from the east by Redgrave Bridge and Albert Road. There is one terminal, so nothing to decide at the end. Two things apply on this route and on none of the others: the airport sits inside the London-wide ULEZ, which Iver does not, and it stands about five miles east of the City, well clear of the Congestion Charge zone.

At around 70 to 95 minutes via the A40 and A13, London City is the business flight from Iver, and people book it for the same handful of reasons. We collect from the Ridgeway trading and warehousing estate in Richings Park, from offices around Denham and Uxbridge, and from home addresses across Iver Heath at times that suit a first meeting rather than a holiday. Plenty of those passengers live within half a mile of Iver station, the first stop on the Great Western Main Line outside Greater London, but a train and a walk at the far end is a poor swap for a quiet executive saloon when you are carrying a laptop bag and a case. Drop-off at London City has the tightest time limit of the airports we serve, so the car pulls up, unloads and moves on rather than lingering. Firms that fly out of City most weeks book it the same way as the rest of our airport work, one price, agreed first.

Rail and Road

Is the Elizabeth line from Iver faster than a taxi to London City?

Iver station is on the Elizabeth line, and its trains run through central London towards Abbey Wood, calling at Custom House. From Custom House you still need the DLR: two stops to Canning Town, then a change onto the branch that serves London City Airport. The line itself passes around 300 metres south of the airport but has no station there.

For a single traveller with hand luggage outside the rush hour, that can be a reasonable option. With bags, an early flight or a return that lands late, the direct car usually makes more sense, and you do not have to get to Iver station first.

Keep in mind that London City does not operate from Saturday lunchtime until Sunday lunchtime, so weekend trips need planning. For shorter hops around the parish, our Iver taxi service runs on the same fixed-price basis. If a flight is disrupted, our guide to delayed and cancelled flights explains how we handle it.
