How close is Iver to Heathrow?
Very close: Heathrow is around 7 miles by road from Iver, and the drive to the terminals normally takes 15–25 minutes via the M4. That makes Heathrow the obvious airport for almost every trip from SL0. The M25 junction pattern around the parish also puts Luton within 50–70 minutes and Gatwick within 60–90 minutes, so those are realistic choices when the flight or fare suits. Stansted takes 90–115 minutes and London City 70–95.
The Ivers are hemmed in by motorways. The M25 runs between Iver village and Iver Heath and past Richings Park, but there is no junction in the parish itself; instead, cars use the M4 at Junction 5 near Langley or the M40 at Junction 1 near Denham. The M4 and M25 meet at the Thorney Interchange, named after the hamlet at the southern tip of the parish. Which route does a taxi take from Iver to each airport?
Because the Ivers have no motorway junction of their own, the first few minutes depend on where you live. Iver village and Richings Park head south on the B470 for the M4; Iver Heath heads north on the A412 for the M40 at Denham.
Heathrow, 15–25 minutes
For Terminals 2 and 3, the quickest line usually runs east towards West Drayton and onto the M4 spur at Junction 4, straight into the central terminal area. For Terminal 5, the car joins the M4 at Junction 5, crosses the Thorney Interchange at Junction 4B and takes the M25 to Junction 14. If one approach is jammed, the driver switches to the other. Book the Iver to Heathrow taxi.
With the airport this close, a lift from a friend can seem the easy option, but it is worth knowing that the airport now charges £7 every time a vehicle enters a terminal drop-off area, and the charge has to be paid by midnight the next day to avoid an £80 penalty.
Gatwick, 60–90 minutes
M4 Junction 5 to the M25 at Junction 15, then anticlockwise past Staines to Junction 7 and the M23 to Junction 9. Gatwick's drop-off zones cost £10 for 10 minutes and £1 a minute after that, up to half an hour. Book the Iver to Gatwick taxi.
Luton, 50–70 minutes, and Stansted, 90–115 minutes
Both go north: A412 to the Denham roundabout, M40 Junction 1 and onto the M25 at Junction 16, then clockwise. Luton is off the M1 at Junction 10 via M25 Junction 21, and its Drop Off Zone is £9 for 12 minutes. Stansted is off the M11 at Junction 8 via M25 Junction 27, and the Express Set Down costs £10 for up to 15 minutes. Book Iver to Luton or Iver to Stansted.
London City, 70–95 minutes
The A40 from Denham into west London and across to the A13 is the usual line; the M4 and A4 through central London is the alternative. Book Iver to London City.

Can you take the Elizabeth line from Iver to Heathrow?
Yes, but not directly. Iver station, in Richings Park, is on the Elizabeth line, the first stop on the Great Western Main Line outside Greater London. Off-peak it has two trains an hour each way, rising to four at peak times. The Heathrow trains branch off at Hayes and Harlington, so the rail journey looks like this:
- Heathrow: Elizabeth line east to Hayes and Harlington, then change for a Heathrow train
- Gatwick and Luton: Elizabeth line into central London and Thameslink from Farringdon (some trains from Iver need a change on the way in)
- Stansted: Elizabeth line to Liverpool Street and the Stansted Express
It is a genuinely useful link for commuting, but for an airport only 15–25 minutes away by car, changing trains with suitcases rarely makes sense, and an early flight may leave you waiting for the first train of the day.
