Slough to Luton Airport: what to expect

Plan on 55–75 minutes. The car joins the M4 in Slough, heads east to the M25 and goes clockwise to the M1, before turning north to Luton. The fare is fixed when you book, so traffic on the way does not change it.

Heathrow is Slough's local airport, but many easyJet and Wizz Air flights leave from Luton. If you have a cheaper fare or a route that only runs from there, the trip is longer but straightforward, and the driver knows it well.

We collect from the town centre, Salt Hill, Upton, Chalvey, Cippenham, Langley, Wexham and Colnbrook, from hotels around town and from offices on the Slough Trading Estate. Local journeys are covered by our Slough taxis.

Local Knowledge

From the M4 to the M1: our Slough to Luton route

Most runs start on the M4. Depending on where you live, the driver joins at junction 6 in central Slough or junction 5 at Langley, then heads east to junction 4b, where the M4 meets the M25 at junction 15. Here we go clockwise, north towards Watford rather than south towards Heathrow Terminal 5. The route continues past the M40 at junction 16, Maple Cross at junction 17, the A404 at junction 18 and the A41 at junction 20. At junction 21 we join the M1 north to junction 10, then take the spur to 10a and the A1081 New Airport Way into the airport. At the roundabout before the tunnel, Luton asks drivers to follow the signs, not the sat-nav, for the drop-off zone.

When the M25 between junctions 15 and 16 is jammed, there is another route. The A412 runs north-east out of Slough through Iver Heath to the Denham Roundabout, where it meets the M40 at junction 1. One junction later the car joins the M25 at junction 16, above the worst of the Heathrow traffic. The A412 also continues north through Denham to Maple Cross and the M25 at junction 17, which helps when junction 16 is also blocked. If the M1 is closed south of Luton, the A414 from junction 8 or the A1081 through St Albans and Harpenden brings us back onto New Airport Way.

Luton trips from Slough are a mix of holiday flights and business travel. Families book around half term and the summer holidays, and business travellers from the Trading Estate and the town-centre offices fly from Luton too. Employers can put this travel on a monthly corporate account and pay once a month.

Rail Option

Can I get the Elizabeth line from Slough to Luton Airport?

Only for part of the journey. Elizabeth line trains from Slough run through central London towards Abbey Wood and stop at Farringdon. There you change to a Thameslink train north to Luton Airport Parkway, then take the Luton DART to the terminal. The DART runs 24 hours a day, every four minutes at busy times and every 15 minutes at the quietest.

With two changes and luggage, that route takes much longer than a 55–75 minute drive and is difficult with an early departure. It suits someone travelling light in the middle of the day. For families, groups or a flight before 7am, most people choose a car.

If someone else is driving you, the Luton terminal Drop Off and Pick Up Zone costs £9 for 12 minutes, then £1 a minute to a 30-minute maximum, paid online by midnight the next day. The free alternative is the Long Stay Car Park at LU2 9NW, with up to two hours free and a free shuttle bus every 20 minutes. Blue Badge holders get 30 minutes free in Terminal Car Park 1. For other airports from the town, see Slough airport transfers or our Slough to Heathrow page.
