How long is a taxi from Slough to Gatwick?

Around 60–85 minutes. The car joins the M4 at whichever of Junctions 5, 6 or 7 is nearest your address, heads east to Junction 4b and turns onto the M25, then follows the orbital anticlockwise to the M23 and the Gatwick spur.

You agree the fare when you book, and it includes Gatwick's charge for using its terminal drop-off zones. If the M25 slows near Heathrow or the M3, the journey takes longer but the price does not change.

We collect across the town: the centre, Salt Hill, Chalvey, Upton and Cippenham in SL1, Britwell and Wexham in SL2, and Langley and Colnbrook in SL3, as well as offices on the Slough Trading Estate.

M4 junction to M25: choosing the fastest way out of Slough

Slough's advantage for Gatwick is that the M4 runs straight through it. Junction 7 serves Slough West and Cippenham off the A4, Junction 6 is the A355 exit for the town centre and Windsor, and Junction 5 serves Langley and Colnbrook. The driver picks the one closest to your door, runs east to Junction 4b, the interchange with the M25, and joins the orbital at its Junction 15. From there it is anticlockwise past the Heathrow junction at 14, Staines at 13 and the M3 at 12, then the A3 at 10, leaving at Junction 7 for the M23. The M23 spur leaves at Junction 9 and ends at a roundabout by the South Terminal, with Airport Way continuing to the North Terminal. If the M23 is closed, the A23 London to Brighton road runs alongside to the airport.

Train or taxi from Slough to Gatwick?

Slough is better placed for rail than most of our area, with two realistic routes. The first is the Elizabeth line from Slough to Farringdon, where Thameslink trains run direct to Gatwick. The second heads the other way: a train west to Reading, then Great Western Railway's direct Reading to Gatwick service, which Gatwick describes as running every half hour and taking around 90 minutes. Both involve a change and a fair amount of time. For a solo traveller with light bags either can work; for a family, an early flight or a car-load of luggage, a door-to-door transfer is quicker overall and far less effort.

Business travel from the Trading Estate

The Slough Trading Estate is the largest industrial estate in single private ownership in Europe, and the town has one of the highest concentrations of company headquarters in the UK. Staff and visitors flying from Gatwick can be booked on a corporate account with one monthly invoice, which our article on how corporate taxi accounts save time explains in more detail.

Timing and the drop-off charge

For a 7am short-haul flight you want to be at the terminal by about 5am. With up to 85 minutes on the road and a margin for overnight roadworks, a 3.20am collection works. At Gatwick, both terminal forecourts charge £10 for the first 10 minutes and £1 for each additional minute, with a 30-minute maximum; payment is due by midnight the next day or a Parking Charge Notice follows. That is included in our fare, and if you are dropped at the wrong terminal the free two-minute shuttle links North and South around the clock.

Heathrow is the shortest run from town, covered on Slough to Heathrow, and every airport is listed on Slough airport transfers. For local journeys see our Slough taxi service, and for trips beyond the airports, long-distance travel.
