Slough to Stansted Taxi

From the M4 to M11 Junction 8a

Slough's run to Stansted starts on the M4, not the M40. From the west of town we can join at Junction 7, from the centre at Junction 6, and from Langley at Junction 5. The M4 then meets the M25 at Junction 15, and because we turn clockwise there, the stretch between Junctions 14 and 15 by Heathrow, the busiest part of the whole motorway, is behind us from the start. For homes on the northern edge of town, the A412 up through Iver Heath to Denham and the M25 at Junction 16 can be the better way on.

After that the car stays clockwise past the M40, the M1 at Junction 21 and the A1(M) at Junction 23, and leaves at Junction 27 for the M11. Stansted's own directions say to use Junction 8a from the London direction and Junction 8 from Cambridge. Junction 8 at Birchanger comes first on the way north and is connected to the A120 too, so if the 8a slip is closed we use it. A full closure of the north-eastern M25 sends us along the A414 through Hatfield and Hertford to the M11 at Junction 7.

Plenty of this is business travel. The Trading Estate and the offices around the town centre send people to Stansted as well as to Heathrow, and frequent flyers and travel bookers can put the journeys on a monthly corporate account.

Should you take the Elizabeth line from Slough instead?

Sometimes, yes. Since May 2023 Elizabeth line trains from Slough have run through central London to Liverpool Street, and the Stansted Express leaves Liverpool Street every 15 minutes during the day for a trip of around 48 minutes. For one person with a cabin bag and a midday flight, one change is manageable. A car wins when there are several of you, when the luggage is heavy, or when the flight leaves early enough that you would be waiting for the first trains.

Drop-off costs, timings and the one-terminal layout

Stansted has a single terminal, with gates in satellite buildings reached by walkway or transit, so arriving is straightforward. The Express Set Down at the front costs £10 for up to 15 minutes and £28 for anything longer since 19 March 2026, with no barriers and payment due online or by phone by midnight the next day. If someone is dropping you in their own car, the Mid Stay car park is free for an hour, with a shuttle bus that runs day and night.
