Stoke Poges to Stansted Airport: the route in one paragraph

It takes about 90–105 minutes. Unlike villages to the north, Stoke Poges starts south: the B416 past Stoke Green into Slough, the M4 east to the M25 at Junction 15, and then a long clockwise stint round to Junction 27 and the M11.

We collect from Rogers Lane, Stoke Green, the roads around Stoke Park and the offices at Sefton Park on Bells Hill, with the fare fixed before the day.

Local Knowledge

The long orbital haul out to the M11 and Junction 8a

At around 90–105 minutes, Stansted is the longest of the five airport runs we make from Stoke Poges, and very nearly all of it is motorway. The opening is familiar enough, the B416 down past Stoke Green and on into Slough, then the M4 eastbound from Junction 5 at Langley or Junction 6, along to Junction 4b where it meets the M25 at Junction 15. After that you settle in for a long clockwise stint, past Junction 16 for the M40, the M1 at 21 and the A1(M) at 23, before peeling off at Junction 27 for the M11 north.

The airport tells drivers to use Junction 8a coming from the London direction and Junction 8 from the Cambridge side, so from here it is 8a. Heading north, Junction 8 at Birchanger comes up just before it and also joins the A120, which makes it the practical swap if the 8a slip road is closed. If the north-eastern quarter of the M25 goes down, the A414 across Hertfordshire through St Albans, Hatfield and Hertford to Harlow rejoins the M11 at Junction 7.

There is a single terminal building, with the gates reached from it by walkway or transit, so no terminal decision can go wrong and the set-down is one forecourt. Most of this work is leisure, families and students on the low-cost network, although the offices at Sefton Park on Bells Hill send people east often enough to keep it steady.

Early Flights

How early does the car leave Stoke Poges?

A six o'clock flight out of Stansted means leaving Stoke Poges in the small hours, long before anything runs along Rogers Lane. The airport's advice is to be at security two hours before departure, so for 06:00 you want to be there by 04:00, which puts a sensible collection at about 02:00. If you are checking bags with Ryanair, remember its desks close 40 minutes before departure, becoming 60 minutes from 10 November 2026. Because the timings are awkward at both ends of the trip we keep round-the-clock cover in Stoke Poges, and families travelling with little ones will find useful tips in our guide to airport taxis with children.

Kerbside

Stansted drop-off: the fee and the free alternative

The Express Set Down in front of the terminal costs £10 for a stay up to 15 minutes and £28 for anything over, the tariff since 19 March 2026. It is barrier-free and paid afterwards online or by phone, by midnight the next day. Mid Stay offers a free hour and a shuttle bus that runs day and night. For rail, Slough's Elizabeth line reaches Liverpool Street and the Stansted Express, but that is two trains and a change with luggage. Either way the fare is settled before you set off, and Stoke Poges airport transfers lists the other airports we serve.
