How do you get to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix from Gerrards Cross?
By car from South Bucks, head up the M40 to Junction 10 and follow the A43 north past Brackley towards Towcester. Silverstone Circuit (Towcester, NN12 8TN) sits just off that dual carriageway on the Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire border. The catch on Grand Prix weekend is the last few miles: Silverstone states that it does not provide a drop-off facility at the circuit, so a taxi cannot simply pull up at a gate.
What the circuit does offer local visitors is a drop-off and pick-up point at Towcester Racecourse, a short shuttle-bus hop from the track. Bus tickets have to be booked in advance. We drive you to Towcester Racecourse, you ride the official bus to the circuit, and we meet you back at the racecourse when you come out. It is the arrangement Silverstone itself recommends for anyone being dropped off, and it keeps you well clear of the grass car parks.
If the motorway is jammed, there is a cross-country line too. The A413 leaves the A40 at Tatling End, just outside Gerrards Cross, and runs north through Amersham, Aylesbury and Buckingham to meet the A43 near Towcester. Your driver picks whichever road is moving on the morning.

When is the 2027 British Grand Prix, and how far away is it?
The British Grand Prix is held at Silverstone each July. Silverstone has confirmed 1–4 July 2027, Thursday to Sunday, with the race itself on Sunday 4 July.
Measured in a straight line, Silverstone Circuit is about 39 miles from Gerrards Cross. The road journey is longer because the sensible route bends north-west up the M40 before swinging across on the A43. Outside event traffic that drive takes around 50 to 65 minutes.
Race weekend is another matter. Silverstone’s own travel page warns that the roads to its car parks get extremely busy and asks drivers to allow at least an extra hour. We set the pick-up time from your house backwards from the bus you want to catch at Towcester, rather than from the distance on the map, and we tell you that time when we confirm the booking.

Where can a taxi drop you off for the British Grand Prix?
At Towcester Racecourse, not at the circuit. Silverstone runs its official shuttle from there, about a 15-minute bus ride, and its buses set down roughly two minutes’ walk from the Abbey and Brooklands entrances. A return bus ticket costs £8 per person per day for 2027, with the cheapest advance prices for bookings made before 31 March 2027. The shuttle ticket covers the bus only.
Published 2027 shuttle hours, which Silverstone says may change:
- Thursday: buses in 10:30 to 19:30, buses out 17:00 to 23:00
- Friday and Saturday: in 06:30 to 14:00, out 17:00 to 23:00
- Sunday race day: in 05:30 to 14:00, out 16:30 to 22:30
Two other official routes suit a chauffeur. Silverstone runs the same £8 shuttle from Milton Keynes, Northampton, Banbury, Coventry and Oxford Parkway stations, so we can set you down at a station bus stop instead. And its Park and Fly option flies guests by shared helicopter from Turweston Aerodrome to the circuit, about 15 minutes each way, booked through Air Charter Service; we can drive you to the aerodrome for it.
Why not drive and park? Silverstone describes on-site spaces as very limited, says many of its car parks are on grass and up to a 30-minute walk from the main gates, and recommends its buses or Park & Ride (Sixfields, Hinton or Bicester) over parking at the venue.
Which car should you book for Silverstone?
Match the vehicle to the party and the kit. A Grand Prix day usually means cool bags, rain gear and folding seats.
Two or three fans travel comfortably in the Mercedes-Benz E-Class or BMW 5 Series, each taking up to four. A family or a group of friends sharing the Towcester bus fits in the Mercedes-Benz V-Class (up to seven) or the Ford Tourneo, which seats eight. Child and booster seats are available on request.

What is worth knowing about Silverstone itself?
Silverstone was built on the runways of RAF Silverstone, a Second World War bomber base, and the 1950 British Grand Prix held there was the first round of the new Formula 1 World Championship. The circuit has been the race’s permanent home since 1987 and is contracted to keep it through 2034. Today’s Grand Prix layout is 5.891 km long with 18 turns, taking in Copse, Maggotts and Becketts, Stowe and Club.
The same drop-off logic does not apply to every day in the calendar.
