Penn to Luton Taxi
Door-to-terminal cars from Penn, Tylers Green and the HP10 hamlets to London Luton Airport, around 55–70 minutes, at a fixed fare.
Penn to Luton Airport: journey time and route
Allow 55–70 minutes. We take the B474 down through Knotty Green into Beaconsfield, join the M40 at junction 2, then go clockwise on the M25 to the M1. The fare is agreed before you book.
Penn has no railway station. The nearest mainline station is Beaconsfield and the nearest Underground station is Amersham, and neither has a direct train to Luton. For an early flight with luggage, a pre-booked car from the door is by far the simplest option.
The parish covers far more than the village centre. It includes Tylers Green, Penn Street, Knotty Green, Forty Green and Winchmore Hill, and we collect from all of them, including the houses around Widmer Pond and the lanes near Holy Trinity Church. For shorter trips, our Penn and Tylers Green taxis run from the same office.

Down to Beaconsfield or across to Amersham: getting from Penn to the M25
Penn is on a ridge about three miles north-west of Beaconsfield and four miles east of High Wycombe, so there are two sensible ways to reach the motorway. The more common one is south on the B474 through Knotty Green to Beaconsfield, onto the M40 at junction 2 and a short stretch east to junction 1A, where the M40 meets the M25 at junction 16. From there the car goes clockwise past Maple Cross, Chorleywood and Kings Langley to junction 21, then takes the M1 north. At junction 10 it leaves for the spur and the A1081 into the airport.
The second route suits pickups on the Tylers Green side, and nights when the M40 or junction 16 is blocked. The B474 continues north to meet the A404 at Hazlemere, and the A404 runs east through Amersham and Little Chalfont to junction 18 of the M25. That joins the orbital two junctions further round towards the M1. If the problem is on the M1 itself, around St Albans, our drivers can leave at junction 8 or use the A1081 through Harpenden. Luton's own advice for the last mile still applies: at the roundabout before the tunnel, follow the signs rather than the sat-nav.
Most Luton bookings from the parish are family holidays and short European breaks. Many of those flights leave early, when the lanes are still dark, and plenty of houses have names rather than numbers. That is why we ask for the house name and any gate details when you book, so the driver can find the right drive at 4am. If you need to go further than the airport, our long-distance taxi service works on the same fixed-price basis.
How much is the drop-off charge at Luton Airport?
The terminal Drop Off and Pick Up Zone costs £9 for up to 12 minutes. After that it is £1 a minute, and no vehicle can stay longer than 30 minutes. Cameras record the number plate on entry, payment is online only and must be made by midnight the following day, and overstaying brings a £95 penalty, reduced to £55 if paid within 14 days. The zone is about a five-minute walk from the terminal doors.
If a relative drops you off, the free option is the Long Stay Car Park, postcode LU2 9NW. You can stop there for up to two hours without charge, and the free shuttle bus to the terminal runs every 20 minutes, day and night. When you book with us, the driver uses the terminal zone and the charge is already included in your fixed price.
For timing, the airport says to arrive when your airline asks, usually two to three hours before departure. With a 55–70 minute drive from Penn, a 6.30am departure with a two-hour check-in means a car at about 3.15am. Our guide to leaving times from South Bucks covers the other airports, and all our routes from the village are on the Penn airport transfers page.

Penn to Luton Taxi Questions
How long does it take to get from Penn to Luton Airport by taxi?
Around 55–70 minutes. The usual route is the B474 to Beaconsfield, M40 junction 2, the M25 clockwise from junction 16 and the M1 north to junction 10.
Is there a station in Penn for getting to Luton?
No. The closest mainline station is Beaconsfield and the closest Underground station is Amersham, and both run towards London rather than Luton, so most people take a car.
Do you ever go via Amersham instead of Beaconsfield?
Yes. From Tylers Green, or when the M40 is blocked, we take the B474 to Hazlemere and the A404 through Amersham to M25 junction 18.
What does it cost to drop off at Luton terminal?
The airport charges £9 for up to 12 minutes, then £1 per minute up to a 30-minute maximum. That charge is included in our fixed quote.
What time should my car collect me from Penn for a 6.30am flight?
About 3.15am if your airline wants you there two hours before departure. For a three-hour check-in, book the car for about 2.15am.
Can you find houses in Penn Street and Forty Green in the dark?
Yes, as long as we have the house name and any gate details. We keep them on your booking, so return trips and future bookings are easier.
Do you collect from Luton on the way back to Penn?
Yes. Give us the flight number and the driver will meet you in arrivals at the actual landing time, at the fixed fare agreed when you booked.
