The village's state primary education is split across two sites that share a website as Chalfont St Giles Village School. Chalfont St Giles Infant School and Nursery is on School Lane and takes children from 3 to 7. Chalfont St Giles Junior School is on Parsonage Road for ages 7 to 11. A family with a child at each has two drop-offs a short distance apart, and we plan the order so both arrive on time.

Jordans School, on Puers Lane in Jordans, is an infant school for Reception to Year 2, and its day runs from 8.45am to 3pm. For secondary, a non-selective upper school close by is The Chalfonts Community College on Narcot Lane, Chalfont St Peter, open from 8.40am to 3.10pm. The girls' grammar, Dr Challoner's High School on Cokes Lane in Little Chalfont, runs from 8.40am registration to 3.35pm, and the boys' grammar, Dr Challoner's Grammar School on Chesham Road in Amersham, registers at 8.45am and finishes lessons at 3.40pm.

The Beacon School on Amersham Road, Chesham Bois, is an independent prep for ages 3 to 13 and publishes its own school transport routes, so check those before booking a private car for that journey.

Will Buckinghamshire Council transport my child from Chalfont St Giles?

Only if they qualify, and the rules are narrower than many parents expect. Help is based on the nearest suitable school and on distance: a child under 8 needs to live more than 2 miles from it, and a child aged 8 to 16 more than 3 miles, measured along the shortest walking route that is reasonably safe. The council states that grammar qualification is not considered when it works out the nearest suitable school, so the nearest suitable school may be an upper school such as The Chalfonts Community College rather than a Dr Challoner's grammar.

Chalfont St Giles has no station of its own; families usually use Seer Green & Jordans or Chalfont & Latimer in Little Chalfont, which is served by the Metropolitan line and by Chiltern Railways trains between London Marylebone and Aylesbury. Older pupils who travel on by rail can be dropped for a particular train and collected from the evening arrival.
