What times do Little Chalfont's schools start and finish?

Each school publishes its own day, and the differences matter when one car is doing more than one drop.

• Little Chalfont Primary School: gates open 8.30am for an 8.45am start; afternoon gates open at 3pm
• Chalfont Valley E-ACT Primary Academy, Bell Lane (ages 3 to 11)
• Dr Challoner's High School, Cokes Lane (girls' grammar, 11 to 18): 8.40am registration to 3.35pm
• Dr Challoner's Grammar School, Chesham Road, Amersham (boys' grammar, 11 to 18): registration 8.45am, last lesson ends 3.40pm

A family with a daughter at Dr Challoner's High and a son at Dr Challoner's Grammar has five minutes between registrations and two sites a short drive apart, so the sensible order is normally Cokes Lane first and continue to Chesham Road. In the afternoon the High School finishes five minutes earlier, which works in the same order. A younger sibling at Little Chalfont Primary adds a third bell, and we will tell you straight away if one car cannot do all three well.

How do Little Chalfont children get into Dr Challoner's?

Through the Buckinghamshire Secondary Transfer Test and each school's admission rules. The test is sat early in the autumn term of Year 6, children at Bucks state primaries are entered automatically unless withdrawn, and 121 is the qualifying score. For the September 2027 intake, results are due on 9 October 2026 and secondary school applications close on 31 October 2026.

A qualifying score does not guarantee a place. The Buckinghamshire Grammar Schools say qualified children living outside a school's catchment have a lower chance of a place there than those inside it. Dr Challoner's High School sets out its catchment map in its 2027 admissions policy, and the council's Find my child a school place service shows which schools cover your address.

On transport, bear in mind that Buckinghamshire Council's policy does not take grammar qualification into account when it identifies the nearest suitable school, so a place at a grammar does not in itself bring free travel.

All of it. The A404 becomes White Lion Road through the middle of the village, with residential streets branching off towards the Chess Valley. We collect from every one of them.
