The original market town sits in the valley of the River Misbourne. The Hill grew up in the early 20th century after the Metropolitan Railway arrived. It has the station, the main shopping streets and much of the commuter housing, and it merges into Chesham Bois towards Chesham. At 147 metres, Amersham station is the highest point on the whole London Underground network.

Getting to Amersham station and beyond

Amersham station has two railways under one roof. It is a terminus of the Metropolitan line, in London fare zone 9, and a stop on the Chiltern Railways line between London Marylebone and Aylesbury. Which one you take depends on where in London you are heading. Either way, we time the drop so you reach the platform without a dash.
