How do you get to Royal Ascot from Gerrards Cross?
The simplest way to reach Royal Ascot from Gerrards Cross is a pre-booked car that drops you at the racecourse taxi point for your enclosure. The usual route is the M25 to the M4, off at Junction 6 onto the A332 Windsor by-pass and then following the signs to Ascot. The racecourse is at High Street, Ascot SL5 7JX, about 15 miles from Gerrards Cross.
Royal Ascot is held each June over five days, Tuesday to Saturday. 2027 dates: Tuesday 15 to Saturday 19 June, as confirmed by Ascot Racecourse. Racing is built around the Royal Procession at 2pm each day, when the royal party drives up the Straight Mile in horse-drawn landaus, and almost everyone wants to be in place before it starts.

How long does the drive to Ascot take on race days?
Plan on 35 to 50 minutes from Gerrards Cross during the Royal Meeting, and allow more on the busiest afternoons. On a normal day the 15 miles take roughly 24 minutes, but around 300,000 racegoers come through across the week and the roads into Ascot village fill up well before the first race.
Because everything turns on the 2pm procession, the pick-up time matters more than the route. We count back from when you want to be through the gates, add a margin for the queue on the final approach, and confirm that pick-up time with you when you book. Which car park is the taxi drop-off for your enclosure?
Taxis and private hire cars at Royal Ascot use specific car parks, and which one depends on your enclosure. According to the racecourse travel page:
- Royal Enclosure: drop-off and pick-up at Car Park 1 or Car Park 3.
- Queen Anne, Village and Windsor Enclosures: the taxi drop-off points at Car Park 3 and Car Park 6.
- Other Ascot race days: the single taxi drop-off is Car Park 3.
Ascot also has an official chauffeur partner, Wheely, which operates a dedicated Royal Ascot VIP entrance for Royal Enclosure members with drop-offs from 10:30 to 13:30. Our cars use the standard taxi points listed above, and we tell you that at booking so nobody expects a different gate.
Collection works the same way in reverse. Before you go in, we agree a time and one of the official points, and your chauffeur waits there. If you decide to stay for the last race or leave early, a call or WhatsApp message is enough to move the time.
How does Royal Ascot parking compare with a chauffeur?
Parking is not free at the Royal Meeting. For 2027, Ascot Racecourse lists car parking at £45 per car when booked in advance, with higher prices on the day, and advance booking closes about eight days before each race day (Monday 7 June for Tuesday 15 June, for example). Anyone arriving without a booking is sent to Car Park 8, Car Park 4 or Car Park 6, and some of those take cash only.
Beyond the cost, driving means one person in your group stays off the champagne, a walk from wherever you are directed, and a slow queue out once racing ends. A chauffeur also saves your outfit from a long walk across grass. Blue Badge holders who do drive get dedicated parking, which the racecourse asks them to pre-book for Royal Ascot.
What do the Royal Ascot enclosures mean for your travel?
Your enclosure decides your drop-off car park and how formal your outfit will be, so it is the first thing we ask. Queen Anne founded the meeting in 1711, and Thursday is Gold Cup day, traditionally known as Ladies Day.
- Royal Enclosure: by invitation only, with the strictest dress code. Ladies wear dresses or skirts falling just above the knee or longer, with straps at least one inch wide, no bare midriffs, and a hat or a headpiece with a solid base of at least 4 inches (10cm).
- Queen Anne Enclosure: the main public enclosure, with the Parade Ring, Grandstand and trackside views. There is no formal code, but smart daywear is expected, including hats or fascinators for ladies and a jacket, collared shirt and full-length trousers for gentlemen.
- Village Enclosure: a festival-style area in the middle of the course, with a similar smart-daywear feel.
- Windsor Enclosure: the most relaxed option, beside the Straight Mile, with no formal dress code.

Ascot Racecourse is around 15 miles from Gerrards Cross, roughly a 24-minute drive on an ordinary day. During the Royal Meeting we plan on 35 to 50 minutes, and sometimes longer on the busiest afternoons, because traffic around Ascot village builds heavily.
Which route do you take to Ascot from South Bucks?
Usually the M25 to the M4, leaving at Junction 6 for the A332 Windsor by-pass and following the signs to Ascot, which is the approach the racecourse gives for traffic from London and the north. The sat-nav address is Ascot Racecourse, High Street, Ascot, SL5 7JX.
Is it worth paying for parking instead of a taxi at Royal Ascot?
Parking at Royal Ascot has to be paid for: Ascot lists it at £45 when booked in advance for 2027, with higher prices on the day, and advance booking for each day closes about a week before. Driving also means someone stays sober and queues out of the car park. A chauffeur avoids all of that.
Can we take the train to Ascot instead?
You can. South Western Railway runs to Ascot from Reading, Aldershot and London Waterloo, and the station is a 7-minute walk from the racecourse. Oyster and contactless do not work to or from Ascot, and queues are likely after racing. There is no direct line from South Bucks, so the train means at least one change.
What should I know about the Royal Enclosure dress code before travelling?
The Royal Enclosure has the strictest rules, including a hat, or a headpiece with a solid base of at least 4 inches (10cm), for ladies. Windsor Enclosure has no formal dress code, and Queen Anne and Village ask for smart daywear. Being set down at the taxi point keeps a formal outfit and hat intact.
Can you take a group of six or more to Royal Ascot?
