Which Denham churches and wedding venues do you drive to?

We drive to every ceremony and reception address in the parish, and two come up far more than the rest. St Mary's Church sits on Village Road in the conservation village, the tree-lined street that has appeared in British films and television; Sir John Mills lived at Hills House beside the church, which carries his blue plaque. We set the bride down at the church gate and move the car a short way off, so it is not left waiting in the middle of Village Road.

Denham Grove is the larger licensed venue. According to the hotel, the Princess Suite takes up to 180 guests for a ceremony and 160 for the wedding breakfast, the Durdent Suite up to 180 for a ceremony or 140 for dining, and the Chalfont Suite suits ceremonies of up to 100. The building began life as BP's Durdent Court training centre, and it has around 100 bedrooms, so guests can stay on site and nobody needs a lift home that night unless they want one.

Can we marry at a register office instead?

Yes. Buckinghamshire Council's nearest ceremony rooms are at the Beaconsfield Old Town Registration Office: the Disraeli Room holds up to 25 people and Midsomer Court up to 60, both figures including the couple and two registrars. From St Mary's in Denham it is roughly 8.5 miles by road, mostly along the A40 or the M40, so leave more time than for a village church. Registrars keep strict slots, and we plan the pickup back from that time.

How long should we allow between St Mary's and Denham Grove?

It is a short drive, about 2.5 miles: out of the village along Village Road, a brief stretch of the A412 North Orbital Road, then the length of Tilehouse Lane to the hotel. We still add a margin, and the car waits through the signing of the register and the photographs before it leaves.

If your photographer wants pictures by the water rather than in the churchyard, Denham Country Park is close by. It covers 69 acres of the Colne Valley Regional Park, with the Colne and Misbourne rivers running through it and the Grand Union Canal along its edge. The visitor centre and café are reached from Denham Court Drive.

How do guests get to a Denham wedding by train?

Guests coming from London usually take Chiltern Railways from Marylebone. Denham station, in Denham Green, is on the Chiltern Main Line with a typical off-peak service of one train an hour each way between Marylebone and High Wycombe; Denham Golf Club is the next stop out. Gerrards Cross has more frequent trains, so a larger group is often better met there. We can hold a Ford Tourneo 8-seater at either station for the arrival and bring everyone back after the evening reception.

Can you take us to Heathrow after the wedding?

Yes. Denham is one of the closest parts of our area to Heathrow: our Denham airport transfer table puts it at around 15–25 minutes depending on traffic and terminal, usually via the M25.
